Mentioning Christmas

Sunday 11th October was the last event of the year at Frome Flea Market and Craft Fair.  It was a huge event and the weather was really good.  As usual we were between a seller of Indian food and a food stall selling olives, caramelised nuts, turkish delight, baclava and similar.  Cost us a fortune, even with the discount they generously gave us as fellow sellers.  Frome finished at 3.00, then home, load the van with as much stock as we dare without overloading it ready for Pack Monday at Sherborne tomorrow.

Pack Monday was a great event for us.  Got there at 5.30 am and it was raining.  Not pouring but heavier than mizzle.  The rain/mizzle continued until about 9.30 when it stopped and never returned.  This was much better than had been forecast.

It was our best Pack Monday ever for sales and chat with the public.  And it was the same for people around us. The word Christmas is now becoming a growing part of conversation.  People talk about buying for Christmas but some are putting off the inevitable for as long as possible.  Others, however, still took the opportunity to buy our half gallon jars of pickled eggs and pickled shallots.  Packing up at the end of the day was accompanied by a couple having a very loud domestic arguement in the distance.

Got home at about 10.45 pm.

Last weekend we were at Stourhead in The Memorial Hall, The Spread Eagle Courtyard, Stourton.   We were there Saturday and Sunday.  People visiting Stourhead tend to go to the Spread Eagle courtyard, whether to go to the pub, or buy refreshments in the courtyard or use the public convenience.  There is plenty of seating in the courtyard too.  We tend to see a few more overseas visitors here, which can make communication interesting.  But again we were blessed with lovely weather.

We will be at Stourton Memorial Hall on 7th & 8th November and 11th to 13th December.

But last Wednesday was horrible at Dorchester market.  The rain was incessant until 10.30 ish.   It was wet, dreary and windy.  So even though we were under cover it was really cold and miserable.  It took ages for the public to brave the weather.  And very few of them visited us.  We packed up early.  Sometimes this is not much fun.
