We were expecting a busy bank holiday weekend. Saturday in Gillingham on the meadow. Sunday at Warminster street market, and Monday with the Earl Of Pembroke at Wilton House..............along with a few thousand others at the huge annual Rotary Club charity car boot sale in the grounds of Wilton House.
Gillingham on the meadow was called off the day before due to the lousy forecast weather, which proved accurate. It was our first time at the market run by Warminster Town Council (4 in the year). In the town centre, the streets closed to traffic, over 100 stalls and very well organised. We had a really good day and it was nice to see many old faces from other events. Would love to attend again, although we are already booked elsewhere (Riversmeet, Gillingham) at the same time as the last Warminster event this year.
Wilton House bank holiday car boot is a regular of ours. In fact it was where we met Pritchetts, the butchers in Salisbury, who are still stocking some of our pickled eggs, shallots and runner bean chutney. As sellers we always do well there, but there are so many stalls with such a variety of sellers and stock to keep families happy all morning....and a chance to hear children crying in sheer agony because they cannot have everything they see. And a surprising number of people said "Weren't you at Warminster yesterday?"
Today is Tuesday 1st September and the first meteorological say of Autumn. So today has been for restocking the van for Dorchester tomorrow.
